Järmärk is Woody Vasulka and Steina’s latest electronic art collaboration, with chaos theorist Rob Shaw. It has been traveling around Santa Fe in a mobile step-van gallery, AXLE Contemporary, since April 15th, and represents the seed of a new collaboration that could become an art app, according to these pioneers of the medium. It was 1971 in New York that Woody Vasulka, a filmmaker, and Steina, a classically trained violinist, were fledgling electronic artists who co-founded  The Kitchen, an incubator and creation-exhibition space for the medium of video art.

Woody Vasulka and Steina discuss the beginnings of electronic art, its evolution, and collaboration.

Editor’s Correction: I misspoke in attributing the book A Whole New Mind,  to Ken Wilber. Ken Wilber’s book is titled A Brief History of Everything. A Whole New Mind is by Daniel Pink.
