Electronica Deejays Make Denver A Scene

Denver has an Electronica scene that began really developing about a decade ago and now has fully reached Tesla coil-wave level.  Whether you like your beats in underground warehouse parties or in the slick and  trendy downtown techno houses that have flown in the hottest DJ from one of the coasts for the evening, theres always dozens and dozens of Electronica happenings going on every weekend –  and those are just ones I know of. Theres probably hundreds of techno shindigs going on along the Colorado Front Range that are so secret you would have to have a repetitive beat-finding machine. Or know a 19 year old techno head.  One of the 2.

As far as the big players in the Denver electronica scene there are many constantly vying to be at the head of the techno table.  One of the 400 pound gorillas in the scene is DJ Hot To Death.  Fresh off of his 2009 Westword Music Showcase Award win for best “Non-Traditional DJ” Mr. Hot To Death probably has a super hero complex.  By day he is the suit and tie engine behind the Monolith Festival at Red Rocks; by night he is the award winning DJ who has been performing with acts across many genres both local and national.  Like what he does or not this dude knows how to throw a party.  myspace.com/hottodeath

DJ Lea Luna is a superstar in the backyard here in Colorado.  Shes been featured in numerous ads and interviews all across the nation including a major ad campaign by Tascam. If there was a school on how to do everything right in Electronica she would be the principal. From her promo shots, to her websites, and of course ultimately her music, everything has been filed down to razor sharp intensity and effect.  This situation is not by accident.  DJ Lea Luna has the talent of a national level musician and the looks of a model and when she commands people to dance they do it by the thousands.

DJ Dragon graduated summa cum laude from the badass school Electronica U.  He recently replaced Paul Oakenfold as the DJ for the E-Leven show on 93.3 KTCL one of Colorados largest radio stations.  You know if somebody is filling Paul Oakenfolds shoes s/he must have size 42 dance sneakers.  DJ Dragon has won a whole mantel full of awards and has played every major venue including Red Rocks. In my opinion, out of all the mile high DJs, this man has the most unique vision on the vibe that makes you move.  Check out the “Jump D and K Mix” for a sample. myspace.com/deejaydragon.

In addition to the impressive list of international quality DJs in Denver one of the best global gateways to all things Techno is based out of Colorado as well.   The sites name is beatport dot com and if you are interested in anything this world has to offer in beats this is the site to go to.  It is like the Amazon x Google of Electronica. Truly the worlds  dot com leader in electronic music. And no I dont own any of it. I dont even know the dudes who do own it. If I did know them I would probably be in a resort in the Caribbean right now telling the waiter, “Bill it to beatport dot com”. Which of course would lead to that whole nasty deportation process.  But I digress.  Go to  beatport dot com and check out all the sweetness for yourself.

Now if you live in Denver or if you have plans on visiting here and want some electronic music action  these clubs are your party start points: The Church, Vinyl, The Loft, and 2am.  They all have the goods you are looking for.  However.  If you feel like digging a little deeper…make some friends at denverunderground dot com and you will get the info for some Colorado raves that arent so public.  And then theres Unnetdotnet which is the 2.0 version of whats happening in Colorado Electronica.
